Towel Rail FAQs
See down below for our most frequently asked questions about towel rails.
What type of towel rail is best?
It is generally known that the best type of towel rail is an aluminium towel rail. This is due to it being a more energy efficient solution than mild steel. However, it is a more expensive option to install. By opting for a stainless steel towel rail, you can get an effective solution, for less a smaller upfront cost. Additionally, it is highly energy efficient, this means that your energy bills will be lower, without compromising on an efficient appliance.
With all of these things considered, the best option is for certain, a stainless steel towel rail.
Are curved towel rails better than straight?
A curved towel rails shape allows a larger flow of air between your towel rail and the wall, which can make for quicker and more efficient drying. This is an ideal solution for larger families who tend to go through more towels, as they can be dried a lot quicker than on a straight rail.
Are towel rails as warm as radiators?
Typically, no. Towel rails are not as warm as proper radiators. However, they do give off a decent amount of heat, thus allowing for dry towels and a cosy bathroom in the colder months.
In fact, many people install towel rails not only for the purpose of drying towels, but to heat their bathroom as well. Towel rails not only heat the towels that are on them, but the surrounding space, too.
How does a heated towel rail work?
Towel rails can be installed on central heating or using an electrical element. Radiators that heat using electricity need pre-filling with oil and an element to heat the fluid. Some radiators are Dual Fuel, so can be installed on both offering the ability to heat the bathroom in isolation.
What is the most efficient heated towel rail?
The most efficient heated towel rail is an electric stainless steel model. It is more energy efficient due to it not being connected to the central heating system of the home. This means that it can be turned on and off without wasting the energy of heating the rest of the home.
Electric towel rails are not known to use that much electricity when performing their job. The typical electric heated towel rail consumes 100 to 200 watts of electricity per hour.
Do white towel rails give off more heat than Chrome?
You may not think so, but painted towel rails give off more heat than chrome ones, and significantly so. Approximately, painted towel rails give off 20% more heat output than chrome models.
This is because the chrome is a coating, layered on top of another metal. Essentially, this means that the heat has to go through two metals whereas painted models will not have this issue.
