How to Seal a Shower Tray in 8 Simple Steps

1. Remove the old sealant

Using a utility knife carefully cut and scrape away the old sealant. Take care not to damage the shower tray in the process.

2. Clean the area

Use the rubbing alcohol, or a suitable alternative, to remove any dirt, residue, soap or mold. Wait for the area to dry before moving onto the next step.

3. Mask the edges

Take your masking tape and apply it along the edges of the shower tray, where you intend to apply the new sealant. This step ensures that you create clean lines when applying the sealant.

4. Load the caulking gun

Follow instructions on your caulking gun and sealant, and insert the sealant tube into the gun. When you cut the nozzle make sure you take into account the size of the gap you are sealing.

5. Apply the sealant

Read the guidelines on your equipment for specific instructions. In most cases you will need to hold the gun at a 45 degree angle, in order to apply the sealant effectively. 6. Remove the masking tape

Carefully peel away the masking tape before the sealant sets. This will ensure a clean finish.

7. Clean up excess sealant

Use a damp cloth to wipe away any excess sealant.

8. Wait for it to set

Wait for the sealant to set before using the shower. This typically takes around 24 hours.
